Recently a friend came to visit Vienna and put me on the spot to try and put together a tour of “Third Man” locations, in between trips to assorted watering holes around the city. Fortunately through a number of websites and some knowledgeable friends I was able to come up with most of the locations. The film begins with a funeral at the Zentralfriedhof on the Simmeringer Hauptstrasse (either take the 71 tram from Schwarzenbergplatz or from the end of the U3 in Simmering). The Zentralfriedhof is worth a visit in its own right - many famous Austrians’ last resting place is here.

With the summer now apparently here, and the school holidays having now started, it is time to get out and enjoy the summer. One tip which you may not have heard about is the Niederösterreich Card, which despite its name also covers some Viennese attractions too. So in case your budget doesn’t stretch to summer vacations in more exotic climes abroad, all is not lost.

The VE directory is intended to allow users to share their tips for bars, restaurants and services with other users. It is not just restricted to Viennese locations and services, although this is the default option and entries are sorted by postcode so Viennese entries will come top of the tree. The directory is available for all site users to browse, although you have to be logged in on the front page to make a submission to the directory. Submissions are checked and then published, to ensure that the entries are consistent - so please don't resubmit just because it doesn't appear immediately. The directory will expand with new categories as demand requires.
